A Journey Defined by Resilience
At 16, a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis challenged me to master the delicate balance between blood sugar management, endurance, and peak performance. This personal battle ignited my passion for understanding human physiology, ultimately propelling me to compete at the highest levels. I played NCAA Division I soccer at Marquette University—earning three Big East Championships and a spot in the Sweet 16—while pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering.
From the Field to the Frontlines of Research
My quest for performance excellence led me to co-found the Diabetes Sports Project (DSP), a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and educating athletes with diabetes. As Director of Athletic Performance and Development, I’ve used my personal experience and technical expertise to make sports accessible for athletes facing similar challenges. My running career soon took off: from winning back-to-back Carlsbad 5000 titles and setting a personal record of 1:16 in the half marathon, to qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials with a remarkable 2:36 finish—making me only the third-ever Type 1 Diabetic to achieve this milestone.
Coaching with Purpose and Experience
As a UESCA certified coach and USATF certified youth coach, I specialize in:
Run Coaching & Endurance Performance: Tailored training that adapts to your lifestyle, whether you’re an elite competitor or a first-time 5k runner.
Strength Training: Building the resilience needed both on the track and in everyday life.
Diabetes Management: Combining lived experience with advanced strategies in fueling, insulin management, and performance optimization.
I’m currently pursuing my Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) license to further empower athletes navigating diabetes and demanding careers.
Beyond Athletics: Leadership and Innovation
When I’m not coaching, I serve as an Engineer at Sandia National Laboratories—applying the same dedication and innovative spirit to people management and leadership development that I bring to the track. You’ll also find me skiing or at a brewery (because, balance!) or hanging out with my friends, family, and dog, Simcoe. Fun fact, my younger sister, Hattie, a collegiate runner at Texas Tech, got me into endurance running in the first place!
Join the Movement
At Embrace The Grind, I believe success is built on consistency, resilience, and the courage to push through challenges. Whether you’re aiming for peak athletic performance, balancing a busy career, or managing diabetes while pursuing your passion, I’m here to help you build strength, speed, and resilience—both on and off the road.
